As a child, I began experiencing intense migraines, and my Italian grandfather would perform traditional rituals from his homeland to remove the malocchio, or evil eye. One method he often used was the classic olive oil technique, where a drop of olive oil is placed in a bowl of water—if the oil spreads or sinks instead of staying intact, it's believed to be a sign that the evil eye is present. Afterward, prayers or incantations are said to cleanse the affected person. I was fascinated by the idea that one person’s energy could negatively affect another—and that someone else could use their own energy to heal. This concept of energy exchange captivated me early on. The symbolic power of the eyes and vision also became central to my understanding of this phenomenon. Growing up in Argentina, where belief in the evil eye is also deeply rooted, I witnessed the seriousness with which people treat and heal this affliction. Experiencing the healing firsthand further deepened my interest and inspired me to create art that explores and expresses the energy, mysticism, and cultural depth behind this enduring belief.
